Acting foreign minister Salahuddin Rabbani said at a gathering in Badakhshan province on Monday that if fundamental reforms are not made in the governments political structure, the last 15 years worth of achievements will be threatened.
Rabbani and Bismillah Mohammadi, the former defense ministry went to Badakhshan province on Monday and attended a ceremony that was held to commemorate the sixth death anniversary of Burhanuddin Rabbani, the former head of the High Peace Council.
Salahuddin Rabbani who is also the leader of Jamiat-e-Islami party said at the ceremony that fundamental reforms should be brought in government structures.
"If the current government cannot respond to the peoples legitimate demands, the people have a right to want changes based on the constitution to reform the system. In Jamiat-e-Islami party of Afghanistan, we pursue reforms in governments political structure more seriously even than before," said Rabbani.
Rabbani also touched on the recent insecurity issues in Badakhshan and said the security challenges should be addressed.
Bismillah Mohammadi who is also a member of Jamiat-e-Islami party said at the same event the Independent Election Commission (IEC) is not independent and that leaders of the electoral commissions should be fired.
Mohammadi also said Taliban are criminals and follow Pakistans orders. He insisted that the group should be eliminated.
"The Independent Election Commission was independent in the past. We are ashamed to utter the word independent for the IEC. The current commission is also being handled in a way to commit fraud in the parliamentary and presidential elections," Mohammadi said.
Jamiat-e-Islami has in the past accused government of monopolizing power and in addition to bringing reforms, had requested government to fire the National Security Council adviser. Rabbani had warned that if government does not accept their demands, Jamiat-e-Islami will take another decision.
